In Colorado, state workers are being urged to use better judgement when purchasing healthcare services. Additionally, users can get a check in the mail for a share of the savings if they select lower-priced and higher-quality suppliers.

The objective is to force health systems in the state, which have some of the highest pricing and profits in the nation, to lower their rates while also enticing companies and employees to make more informed choices. This will disrupt what is thought to be a dysfunctional market for health care.

Since July 1, public workers have had access to the Healthcare Bluebook, an online resource owned by the same-named health data firm that rates healthcare providers according to pricing and quality. The top 25% of providers are shown in green, the bottom 25% are shown in red, and everyone else is shown in yellow. For expenses, the same colour pallet is used.

Josh Benn, the head of group insurance contract for the Colorado government, stated, "If you choose a green-green provider, then we'll send you a cheque."

For surgeries like mammograms, the checks is as low as $50 or as high as thousands of dollars. The majority of the time, the funds go toward the employee's deductible, coinsurance, or coinsurance. But, because there is no cost for preventative healthcare like colonoscopies, the employee will have more money in their pocket.

Only workers who select the state's soul health care plan, which is run by Cigna, rather to the Kaiser Permanente alternative, which has a limited network of physicians, are eligible for the award programme. More than 1,200 of the nearly 20,000 individuals on the Cigna plan, including workers and family members.
